Why Your Most Popular List Serv May Be Your Biggest Weakness

Posted by Chris Bonney on Wed, Jan 14, 2009

It is 2009 after all.

That's all I can think as I scan through yet another gobbled up mess of an ASAE SIG list serv in digest form.

I subscribe to two ASAE list servs and while the interaction between members is always engaging and the content virtually always informative and useful, the display of said content is atrocious.

It makes me want to unsubscribe, create my own social networking site with much cleaner and easy-to-use tools and invite everyone to join me there. Let's have a conversation in a way that allows us to get information in a way that works for me. Let's leave behind the "we've always done it this way" mindset once and for all.

Below is an example of the some the garbled mess of characters I need to sift through to actually find the nuggets within my digest emails. The real point of this post though is: What are you doing at your association that seems to be working, but may need an overhaul? An overhaul before some influencer finds a better way to do it. Have you asked your members lately how they like the way you communicate with them? Are they simply making do, hoping someone will show them a better way sometime soon. Don't you think that someone should be you?
